One Friday afternoon in September, while I was sitting in on Small’s piano lesson, my phone rang. Hattie Brett, the assistant editor of Grazia, was keen to know if the magazine could cover my BRCA story in one of her October issues – to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As it happens, I have recently been feeling increasingly anxious that Mini (now aged 9) is becoming a little aware of the all-too-obvious media coverage – so I had decided to take a step down from the campaign.
But then I also realised that this was perfect timing to showcase the Astley Clarke Breast Cancer Campaign bracelet…
While bracelet sales have exceeded ALL our expectations, it’s just never enough, is it? Thanks to Angelina, BRCA awareness has never been so high and yet there are still so many undetected gene mutations walking the street in ignorance.
So I decided that I would do it.
And we had a lot of fun.
The Grazia shoot team were directed by Sara Rumens, the magazine’s lifestyle picture editor with glamour photographer Rick Pushinsky behind the lens and Cat Crawford on hair and makeup.
my story appears in this week’s Grazia – on sale Tuesday 15th October
